Civil Engineering

In addition to developing our own application, we also provide programme and project management services to small and medium enterprises who know that they have a requirement for a system, but don’t necessarily have the skills to formally record this requirement or the time to find a suitable solution.

One such project we undertook was in the field of Civil Engineering working with UK wide geotechnical company.  With the then slump in the housing market and subsequent impact upon the availability of suitable projects, the company were looking to reduce overheads in the tendering process and subsequently free up their highly qualified engineers from lower scale tasks.

2and7 Limited began by taking the time to understand their business, going onsite to work with all levels within the company, as the system would be used by men in the field, engineers back in the office, managers within the Head Office and potentially customers who would be able to access CAD drawings via a secure extranet feature.

The system consisted of a customised application capable of reading AutoCAD site plans and providing a number of features to allow skilled engineers to identify the area to be treated and the grid size to be used.  The system then used a bespoke algorithm to calculate the least number of boreholes that would be required to satisfy current UK legislation and ensure a solid foundation for residential and commercial development.

This information was then stored in a database and made available for download by site operatives using a Panasonic Toughbook and 3G card.  Operatives were then able to complete forms which were previously paper based including deliveries, depths drilled, consumables used, etc.  This in turn was uploaded back to the central server where this information could be used to monitor progress and to prepare invoices for the customer.
